My Model Interests

I'm currently stuck with several model interests. They can be broken down into three main categories:
1) Wisconsin Central -1990s
2) NSW Transition Era -1960s
3) NSW Modern Era -Mid 1990s to mid 2000s.

I enjoy all three for various reasons, but the NSW modern era is probably my favourite, as that is what I have grown up with, and there are some great RTR models now on the market. My main interest in this era is National Rail intermodal and steelink trains, as well as QR National, and other small fleets such as SSR and CFCLA.

With no place to currently build a layout, I have been focussing on improving the locos and wagons. All my rollingstock is fitted wth Kadee 5s or 148s and have metal wheels. I have been progressively weathering everything when time permits. The rollingstock is either purchases as RTR or as kits.

All my locos are fitted with DCC decoders, and some with sound. Over the next few months I hope to get all the CVs sorted out and have everything speed matched.

For now, the my blog will focus on the models and weathering. Hopefully we will see the start of a layout before the end of 2010.

On the MOVE

Wednesday night saw the big move of Wills St layout from the AMRA club rooms at Glen Iris.

With the generous help of the AMRA members to load the truck, the task was completed within an hour or so. Thanks heaps guys!!

Lyons Transport are now moving it up to Mittagong where it will be stored for a while, until a place can be found to put it up.

I'm considering putting up the end sections of the street/track running area as this would make a good short term shunting layout in my shed.

Below is a photo of the layout and every other tiny bit belonging to the layout, loaded into the back of the truck.

Time for the Layout to Move

A tentative date has been set to load and move the layout.

Hopefully it will be next Wednesday night.

No luck looking for a house at this stage, so I might see about assembling the end shunting section in the garage/shed.

New Layout - Wills St

Welcome to the first entry of my Model Train Blog. Many viewers would know my Blogging from 'Rollingstock News' -

I didn't think I would be writing about a layout so soon (especially considering I have no room for one), but an opportunity came up on Ebay a few weeks back to purchase a well know HO scale layout - Wills St (owned by AMRA Vic Branch).

I saw this layout operating at Caulfield this year and was quite impressed with the design and quality, although I didn't think I would ever own it. I have included a few shots I took at Caulfield.

A new chapter of Wills St starts here. During October the plan is to move the layout to NSW and story it at a suitable location for at least a few months while a shed is built or we move house. Once up, the layout will be wired for DCC, and renamed 'Nathans Point'. The goal is to have everything up and running by mid 2011, with operating sessions following soon after.

Nathans Point is derived from my son's name, and Stevens Point, which is a major yard on the former Wisconsin Central (WC). Obviously the layout will be based on the WC in the mid 1990s.

The plan is to regularly update the Blog when various milestones are reached. It might be a bit quiet while the layout is in storage!! I'll try and put up some kit building or weathering Blogs.

Anyway, sit back and enjoy my life changing purchase!
